SCSM (Society for Christian Scholarship in Music): Annual Meeting 2024

The Society for Christian Scholarship in Music is an association of scholars (musicologists, theorists, ethnomusicologists, and theologians) exploring the intersections of Christian faith and musical scholarship from a variety of scholarly approaches and perspectives. On offer at this year’s Annual Meeting will be two lecture recitals, a highlighting of archival and other research in the poster board session, and papers on everything from new approaches to hymnody and worship practices, theologies of music and time, and religious influences in the TV series Battle Star Galactica. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Braxton D. Shelley (Yale University) presenting his 2021 award-winning book Healing for the Soul: Richard Smallwood, the Vamp, and the Gospel Imagination. The live musical experience will be a community hymn-sing from the African American Ecumenical Hymnal One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism (GIA, 2018) led by Dr. James Abbington (Emory University, Editor—GIA Music).
